This week in Food Tech we made pizza's and were asked to write an evaluation on it. So here goes:
What did you make?
We made a pizza in groups of three and split the dough between the three of us so there was enough. We were given a handful of toppings and my group didn't use them up so we at them afterwards. (oops)
Who did you work with?
I worked with The Breakfast Club of One and Keeping up With the Carbdashians
What equipment was used during this practical?
During this practical I used a rolling pin, mixing bowl, wooden spoon, baking tray, spoons, knives, chopping boards, measuring cups.
Explain why is important to knead a dough. Outline how to knead
It is important to knead the dough so that it has a light and fluffy consistency. You also don't want it to have lumps of flour in it. To knead you use the heel of your hand and push into the dough. Repeat until light and fluffy.
When rolling out or shaping your mini pizzas bases, what difficulties did you face? Example how to professional pizza maker overcomes these problems.
When I was rolling out my pizza shapes I found it difficult to have a perfect shape because whenever I got the right shape it wouldn't be big enough so I had to roll it out making the shape stretch in a weird way. I understand professional pizza makers overcome this trouble by using their knuckles and the tops of their hands to stretch it out into a circular shape.
Mozzarella cheese is used in this food item. Discuss the property that you can see that makes mozzarella the best cheese for pizza.
Mozzarella is used for pizzas because of its unique stretchability. Other cheeses such as feta are used on gourmet pizzas as well as mozzarella. According to scientists in LA they conducted an experiment with other cheeses as well as mozzarella. They found that mozzarella had they highest browning and it bubbles and melts better than any. You can see their results here.
What skills did you need for this practical activity?
Some skills we needed were:
- kneading dough
- safely cutting vegetables
- accurately measuring ingredients
- crushing garlic
- how to correctly wash up and put things away
Put between 0 (poor) and 10 (excellent) next to statement to rate your performance:
I followed all personal hygiene and safety rules. I give myself a 9 as when we were washing up we accidentally put the knives in the sink. (with soapy water)
I used all utensils and equipment in the appropriate manner. I give myself a 10.
I worked well with other members of the class. I give myself a 10.
I read and followed the recipe accurately. I give my self a 9 as my group had to add more flour to the dough as it was extremely sticky.
What improvements will you try and make for the next practical?
Next time I will try and not put as much ingredients on the top of the pizza as a few of them fell of onto the baking tray and got burnt.
Did you enjoy what you made? Would you suggest any changes to the recipe?
Yes I did enjoy what I made and I don't suggest any changes for next time as I thought it was delicious!
See you next time I have something to say!
